The transition to adulthood can often be a bumpy ride, because we are psychological children trying to fill emotional voids that were not fulfilled while we were growing up.
Learning to love ourselves is one of the most challenging things we can do in our lifetime, because of:
- social and cultural conditioning that demands we behave a certain way
- mainstream media messages telling us that we’re never good enough
- an economy that perpetuates slavery to work and debt!
Philosopher Dad offers some mindful wisdom to navigate this often mindless maze of life.

In February of 2009, I made a decision to stop slowly killing myself. I had spent more than 2 decades in a vocation that was chipping away at my soul while at the same time feeding my alcohol and other drug addictions – which were growing beyond my control.
After 8 years in 12-step doctrine and meetings, and several setbacks, I decided to find a more secular, evidence-based program that could not only help me in my recovery journey, but also help others who were challenged by substance use disorder (SUD) and other mental health illnesses.
Since 2018, I’m happy to say that SMART (self-management and recovery training) has helped me remain free from addictions (coffee excluded).
Daily Wisdom from my Philosopher Dad contains a lot of my father’s wisdom, together with my life’s experiences and the timeless wisdom that has been passed to me from countless mentors.
When you read the daily message, spend a few minutes of contemplation and write your intentions for the day. Our words are powerful, and our written words can be transformational.
Please always remember to talk to & treat yourself like you talk to & treat your best friends.
